without jeopardizing your automobile warranty. The Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act protects
consumers against unfair and deceptive practices by car dealers, specifically regarding
automobile warranties.
Federal law prohibits car dealers from voiding your automobile warranty, simply
because routine scheduled maintenance was performed at an independent repair facility.
If a car dealer service representative ever tells you that your new car warranty
will be voided if you have your vehicle serviced at an independent facility, or
unless you use that dealer’s specific brand of oil (or other part), you can safely
reply that their claim is not true.
Thanks to the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act, your new car warranty cannot be voided
if you decide to have your oil, oil filter or any other part, changed or repaired
by someone other than a dealer.
